Meeting Place
In response to the USTR’s proposal to hold a meeting for revision of the Korea-US FTA in Washington, DC within one month, the Korean government made a counterproposal, saying, “Let’s have a meeting in Seoul after a new Korean trade minister is appointed.”
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy announced that it sent a reply under the name of its minister Baek Woon-kyu to the USTR, which requested the holding of a special session of the Korea-US FTA Joint Committee on July 24 when the inauguration ceremony for minister Baek was held.
Responding to the US’s proposal, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said, “We should consider holding the meeting in Seoul first. Let’s hold the meeting at a proper time after the Korean government completes the reorganization of its structure such as the appointment of a new trade minister.”
"Let's discuss ways through which both sides can jointly investigate, research and evaluate the effects of the Korea-US FTA," the ministry also said.
