It has been found that Samyang Food exported products in violation of halal food standards to Islamic countries while advertising them as those in compliance with the standards.

The Ministry of Food & Drug Safety of South Korea and the Korea Muslim Federation issued a warning against the company in April this year for this reason.

The products in question are instant noodles produced on halal mark-attached production lines and exported to countries such as Indonesia. According to news reports, the company produced non-halal instant noodles on the same production lines by using pork, too. According to the standards, the two types of food cannot be produced on the same production line.

In the meantime, Samyang Food said in a recent interview that it has never produced pork-based instant noodles on its halal mark-attached production lines and those production lines are only for no-meat products. In spite of its denial, many in the industry pointed out that this incident can have a significant impact on the food industry of South Korea as a whole and consumers around the world may lose their trust in the company.
