$91B ICT Exports in H1

 

ICT exports recorded double-digit growth for the seventh consecutive month thanks to US$8 billion, a record high in semiconductor exports. ICT exports in the first half of this year posted a record high of US$90.87 billion as well.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said on July 12 that in June, ICT exports swelled 18.0% to US$15.91 billion from the same period last year.

By item, semiconductors recorded the highest monthly exports on the strength of strong exports of memory semiconductors, reaching US$8 billion in export for the first time.

Display exports inflated to US$2.36 billion, up for the eighth consecutive month. Exports of computers and peripherals continued to rise to US$810 million, boosted by brisk exports of auxiliary memory devices such as solid state drives (SSDs).

Exports of mobile phones continued to slow down due to the concentration of local production volume on domestic consumption and the expansion of the local procurement of parts amid an increase in the proportion of finished goods produced abroad.

By region, Corporate Korea continued to enjoy growing exports to major countries such as China (16.6% ↑), Vietnam (75.9% ↑) and the European Union (8.4% ↑).

ICT exports in the first half of this year hit a record high of US$90.87 billion, up 19.0% from the same period of last year.

Last month, ICT imports led by semiconductors, displays, and mobile phones shot up 21.7 percent while Korea’s surplus in the international ICT trade was tentatively estimated at US$ 7.03 billion.
