LS Cable announced on June 19 that the company won an order for a high-voltage cable project worth 370 billion won (US$330 million) from the Singapore Power Authority. Singapore’s largest project is to build a nationwide new next generation power supply network for the stable supply of electricity.

"We proved that LS Cable has both quality and price competitiveness by passing all of evaluation standards set by the conservative Singapore Electric Power Authority and winning orders for the project’s entire section," said Myung No-hyun, president of LS Cable.

LS Cable will install 230kV (230,000V) cables 60m underground in five sections between horizontally and vertically across Singapore by 2020. The project will consume 360km of cables. This means installing underground cables whose total length is longer than the distance between Seoul and Busan, which is 325km.

An ultra-high-voltage cable carries a current of 66kV which is 300 times more than 220V for home use. At the moment, an ultra-high-voltage cable can commercially carry 500kV. Because of a high cost of construction, this kind of cable is mainly used for transmission between urban centers and substations in or around a city. A high technological barrier makes ultra-high-voltage cables a high value-added product along with submarine cables in the cable industry.

LS Cable is seeking to steadily grow through aggressive overseas advancement such as expanding its investment in Myanmar through LS Cable Asia that enjoys the biggest market share in Vietnam, and setting up a power cable manufacturing corporation in the US and a telecommunication cable sales corporation in France.
