It has been found that the market cap rankings of six out of the 10 companies with the largest market caps in the KOSPI exchange have changed at least once since the beginning of this year.

The Korea Exchange announced on June 15 that Naver, which had ranked sixth among the top 10 as of the end of 2016, ranked fourth on June 14 based on a rapid growth of the Internet advertising market. During the same period, POSCO and Shinhan Financial Group Co., Ltd. climbed one notch to eighth and ninth, respectively.

On the other hand, Hyundai Mobis fell from fifth to sixth, Samsung Life Insurance from eighth to tenth, and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) from fourth to fifth. The KEPCO temporarily shut down 10 thermoelectric power plants recently in accordance with the South Korean government’s policy for particulate matter reduction.

In the meantime, the top three – Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Hyundai Motor Company – maintained their rankings as in the case of Samsung C&T, which came in seventh.

“Last year, the rankings changed in the case of eight companies and two dropped from the top 10 list,” the Korea Exchange explained, adding, “Samsung Electronics is the only one of the top 10 entries that showed no change in ranking between 2013 and this month.”
