Lee Jae-hyun, chairman of the CJ Group, attended the group's official event in four years and said, “I will contribute to the national economy by securing a future growth engine, which is an urgent task of the group.”
Chairman Lee made the statement at the opening ceremony for CJ Blossom Park and the “2017 ONLYONE Conference” on May 17.
"My absence disabled the CJ Group from securing a future growth engine and its global projects sluggish at a critical time when the group had to take off a great deal after the announcement of the second take-off in 2010,” chairman Lee said. “My heart is broken. I feel a strong sense of responsibility."
On the day, chairman Lee emphasized that the CJ Group will realize “World Best CJ in 2030,” while going beyond “Great CJ in 2020” to post 100 trillion won (US$90 billion) in sales.
"CJ's contents, life culture services, logistics, food, and bio business will inject new vitality into the Korean economy now that current industries are waning and new growth engines are found," chairman Lee said.
"In 2030, we will have to build CJ as a company which is number one in three or more business sectors and eventually becomes the world's leader in all of its business sectors."
The CJ Group plans to invest 36 trillion won (US$32billion) including M&As in the logistics, bio, and cultural contents sectors by 2020, including five trillion won (US$4.5 billion) this year.
On the other hand, the “ONLYONE Conference” is a group-level event that bestows prizes on employees who made great achievements in a past year. Since 2005, chairman Lee Jae-hyun had held the event annually but has not since 2014. This year, the event was held with the opening ceremony for CJ Blossom Park, an integrated R&D institute of CJ Cheil Jedang.
