South Korea’s second largest automaker Kia Motors Corp. is planning to release various high-performance models, which allow drivers to enjoy driving, one by one. Hyundai Motor Group appointed BMW M division's Albert Biermann to lead the development of new high performance Hyundai and Kia models at the end of 2014. Accordingly, all eyes are on whether the company will achieve the desired results.

According to industry sources on April 17, Kia Motors recently released the K5 GT, an upgraded version to the existing K5, and will launch Stinger, a rear-wheel-drive high performance model, in June

With various tuning processes and new specifications based on the existing K5 with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, the K5 GT has the best-in-class driving performance among domestic mid-size sedans. The car is also equipped with a more responsive transmission to offer a smooth but darting acceleration at high speeds. In addition, the K5 GT sports a low-steel sports brake, , which is often mounted in high-performance sports cars, for extra durability and safety by minimizing brake fade caused by repeated brake-stepping.

Strengthening a suspension system for stable shock absorption, the K5 GT features the latest electronic control suspension technology for the first time in the domestic mid-size sedan industry to offer the best driving traction performance according to driving conditions and road conditions.

With a sporty design with the GT logo, the car has also become the first domestic mid-size sedan using “Active Engine Sound Generator,” an electronic sound generator that converts engine turbulence to sound to provide more dynamic driving performance.

Kia Motors will also launch the Stinger high performance car as early as next month. The model with 3.3-litre Twin Turbo GDI engine produces 370 horsepower (PS) with a maximum torque output of 52.0㎏f.m. In particular, it accelerates from 0-to-100 kph in 4.91 seconds – making it the fastest-accelerating and most powerful car Kia has ever produced.

Kia Motors underwent various tests around the world, including Nurburgring, Mojave and the Alps as well as winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden, with temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.
