Poor Performances

It has been found that the Hyundai Motor Group, GM Korea, Renault Samsung Motors and Ssangyong Motor sold a total of 733,274 cars across the world last month, down 7.7% from a year ago.

Their combined sales volume in the South Korean market fell 1.9% year on year to 145,903 while their total exports showed a decline of 9%. In the South Korean market, the sales volumes of Kia Motors and GM Korea fell 5.7% and 12.4%, respectively. Each of Hyundai Motor Company, Renault Samsung Motors and Ssangyong Motor recorded an increase of 1% to 2% in the same market last month.

The growth of Hyundai Motor Company was led by Grandeur and Sonata. Its domestic sales increased by 26% from a year earlier to 30,486 with the sales volumes of Grandeur and Sonata reaching 13,358 and 7,578, respectively. In the case of GM Korea, the sales volume of the All New Cruze jumped by no less than 76.4% but that of the Spark, the most popular product of the company, almost halved. Likewise, a decrease of 12.1% in the sales volume of the Morning led to the negative growth of Kia Motors.

On the export side, only Renault Samsung Motors showed a positive growth. Its monthly exports increased 5.5% from a year ago and reached 14,771 units in March this year. Its QM6, which made its debut in Europe last month, accounted for approximately 30% of the monthly exports while 9,500 units of the Nissan Rogue were shipped out by the company. Meanwhile, the monthly exports of Kia Motors, GM Korea, Hyundai Motor Company and Ssangyong Motor fell 12.5%, 8.2%, 7.8% and 4.5%, respectively.
