Map App Vs. Transport App
Naver and Google are competing for the top spot in mobile map applications while Kakao Taxi is leading the public transportation app market.
Industry tracker Wiseapp announced on March 28 that Naver’s map is the most frequently used map app with 8.08 million monthly active users (MAU) on the Android platform here in February, followed by Google with 7.66 million MOU and Kakao with 3.09 million MOU.
Kakao Taxi was the most frequently used public transportation app. Kakao Taxi and Kakao Bus ranked first and third in the public transportation app sector with 51 million and 1.86 million MAUs, respectively, over the cited period. Smarter Subway by DoppelSoft followed with 3.35 MAU.
In navigation apps, SK Telecom’s T Map gathered 6.15 million users, followed by Kakao and KT Corp. with 2.94 million and 1.63 million users, respectively.
In car rental apps, Socar and Green Car took first and second place with 390,000 users and 150,000 users, respectively.
About 8 out of 10 South Korean smartphone users have Android phones. The survey was conducted on 26,898 Android phone users.
