The 5G pilot services that KT has been developing for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games have been adopted as a draft for international standardization.

KT announced on January 30 that the technical requirements and scenarios of its five 5G pilot services, including 360-degree Live VR, were approved as a draft recommendation for international standards at a meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) held in Geneva, Switzerland, held from January 16 to 27.

This is the world’s first 5G service draft for international standardization to be approved.

Japan’s NTT also proposed its 5G services to be introduced at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics as international standards, but agreed with the ITU to select KT as the single editor for the draft.

Meanwhile, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games will take a year later and KT officials are establishing 5G communication systems at the PyeongChang Olympic stadiums in Gangwon Province in order to test 5G communication services at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games for the first time in the world.
