Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction officially announced on November 28 that it will make an announcement again within six months or when there is a detailed change in regards to reports that Doosan Power Systems India Pvt. (DPSI) won a 2 trillion won (US$1.7 billion) contract to supply thermal power plants in India.

A Doosan Heavy Industries spokesperson said, “Our India-based arm, DPSI, is pushing an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with India’s Uttar Pradesh state government-owned power company to supply two units of 1320MW coal-fired thermal power plants. We will re-announce about the future progress within six months or when we win the deal and the detailed plan comes up.”

According to industry sources, Doosan Heavy Industries signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Canadian nuclear company SNC-Lavalin on the 17th to extend the life of Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) nuclear power plants and work together on new nuclear power projects. CANDU is a Canadian-developed, pressurized heavy water reactor used to generate electric power. With the MOU, Doosan Heavy Industries has taken an advantageous position to push into the CANDU reactor life extension market.

As the company is expected to win the deal in India and extend deals in other countries, Doosan Heavy Industries is highly likely to surpass 11.4 trillion won (US$9.71 billion) of its order goal this year.
