KT&G, South Korea’s top tobacco maker, said on September 26 that it would dispatch its employee volunteer team to Cambodia on an international volunteering mission that is scheduled to end on the 29th.

The team is comprised of 22 executives and employees who were selected as those who frequently participated in community services and it will be sent to Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia to work at welfare facilities for children.

Since 2005 KT&G has dispatched a total of 960 undergraduate volunteers and employee volunteers to Cambodia on 35 separate missions. The company has also been committed to building and repairing educational facilities in Cambodia, such as the nation’s floating kindergartens, libraries and schools.

Furthermore, KT&G has been engaged in medical support activities in Uzbekistan and Mongolia. In Indonesia, the company has carried out a project called “Sangsang Village” to improve living conditions in slum areas. To top it off, KT&G has become the first Korean company to build a Korean language education center in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia.

This year, KT&G also plans to build a forestry and agriculture education center to train reforestation professionals in a bid to prevent the desertification in Mongolia, involving in a wide range of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities at home and abroad.
