S-OIL appointed Othman Al-Ghamdi as its new CEO at a special meeting of shareholders and the board of directors held at the headquarters in Seoul on September 5.

The new CEO Al-Ghamdi is known to have insights into the Korean market as he handled Korea-related businesses and formed cooperative relationships with local companies  Representative Director of Aramco Asia Korea since September last year, which is the Korean unit of SoudiAramco, a major shareholder of S-OIL Corporation.

The Saudi national Al-Ghamdi received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master of business administration from King Fahd University. With his 25-year career at the state-owned Saudi Arabian energy company SaudiAramco, he has nurtured expertise and leadership skills necessary for playing a key role in areas of production, maintenance, and project.

The newly appointed CEO has experienced various business conditions in the Asian market and developed global business capabilities while holding key posts at several companies: a chief engineering manager at Saudi Aramco’s Riyadh refinery, an operation manager at Ras Tanura refinery, and a project manager handling the technology planning division at Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Company, which was established at China by SaudiAramco in partnership with Exxon Mobile and Sinppec, from 2004 to 2008.

An official at S-OIL said, “CEO Al-Ghamdi responds to markets changes with agility, and has a balanced understanding of Asia and Asian culture as well as global business acumen. Since September last year he has lived in Korea with his family and has keen interest in the Korean culture.”

Meanwhile, Nasser Al-Mahasher, who led S-OIL as CEO for four years and six months, returned to SaudiAramco early this month.
