Listed in DJSI World

SK Telecom announced on September 8 that it has become the first Asian mobile service provider to be listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World for nine straight years. The DJSI World includes only companies ranked in the top 10 percent of the DJSI.

The DJSI was developed in 1999 jointly by S&P Dow Jones of the United States, the world’s largest financial information service provider, and RobecoSAM of Switzerland, the investment specialist. It is a global comprehensive benchmark that assesses the quality of management sustainability, evaluating the largest 2,500 companies listed on the S&P Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index in terms of economic performance, social responsibility, and environment management related with sustainability.

This year, the index was split into 60 industry groups for evaluation. In the telecommunication industry, only nine out of 70 global firms, including SK Telecom, AT&T, Vodafone, NTT DOCOMO and Deutsch Telecom, were included in the DJSI World in 2016.

SK Telecom’s global competitiveness in responsible management activities and sustainability has been acknowledged through being named for nine consecutive years to the DJSI World. In particular, the company received a high score in the Independence of Board of Directors and governance structure, customer-centered management, innovative management through R&D and crisis management, according to SK Telecom.

Lee Seong-hyung, head of the financial management division at SK Telecom, said, “By being named to the DJSI World nine years in a row, SK Telecom is able to secure its position as a global sustainable company once again. We will continue to raise the corporate value by creating social and environmental achievements through not only economic performance but also responsible management in the future.”
