Galleria Duty Free said on August 31 that it has selected top ten candidates who won the most “LIKES,” as a result of the open vote on 50 netizens chosen from its tour guide recruiting event that has been held since July this year, through which it will offer the winners a weekly wage of US$20,000.

A total of 3,000 applicants rushed to the company’s recruiting program with an enthusiastic response. The competition, of course, was relentless with its ratio was 1,000 to 1.

In fact, during the open ballot conducted online, the number of incoming visitors to the website of Galleria Duty Free totaled some 600,000, up 234% compared to that of usually incoming visitors. The number of online open balloting reached approximately one million.

A look at the personal records of applicants shows that they are Chinese and Japanese students studying in Korea, and locals with different jobs, including college student, teacher, nurse, designer, actor/actress, model, office worker, housewife, as well as power blogger.

“It is a global promotional campaign designed to enhance the recognition of our duty free shops for overseas tourists such as those from China and Japan. Chinese applicants in particular accounted for 77% of the total applicants, proving that our campaign was effective in improving the brand image of Galleria Duty Free Shop,” said an official at the IMC team of Hanwha Galleria Duty Free business division.

Meanwhile, the South Korean duty free retailer plans to select the final three winners around September by reviewing their plans as tour guides and conducting video interviews with the 10 candidates chosen this time.
