Promotion of Water Industry

Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor Kwon Young-jin left for Singapore on July 8 to attend the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) and the World Cities Summit (WCS). Mayor Kwon will stay in Singapore for three days until July 11 (Mon) with a Daegu City delegation, composed of Chairman Jin Young-hwan of the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and CEOs from companies housed in the water industry cluster and local companies related to the water industry. While staying in Singapore, he and the delegation will promote Korea International Water Week, Which is to be held in Daegu this October.

Mayor Kwon will attend the WCS in the afternoon of July 10. He will talk about Daegu’s policy to foster the water industry and have bilateral talks with Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and the HCM City People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong. In the bilateral talks, he will discuss ways for cooperation in the water industry with the cities and invite the mayors to attend the Korea International Water Week in October.

Furthermore, Mayor Kwon will meet Ng Joo Hee, the Chief Executive of the Public Utilities Board which handles water industry polices, to talk about cooperation between the water industry clusters of Singapore and Daegu.

Earlier, in the morning on the day, Mayor Kwon will attend the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between Korea-based Samjin Precision Co., Ltd. and Singapore-based Robak, Inc., offering comments to encourage the two companies. Samjin is one of the leading manufacturer of water treatment valves in South Korea. Recently, it decided to invest in the Daegu water industry cluster.
