Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on May 26 that it has received the award of “Electricity Generation and Freshwater Project of The Year” from Middle East Economic Digest (MEED), a business media group in the Middle East.

Now in their sixth year, the “MEED Quality Awards for Projects” selects the best construction project in 16 areas including electricity generation, fresh water, oil and gas led by six member nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) – Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman.

The Rabigh 2 thermal power plant, built by Doosan Heavy Industries in April last year, is a 2800 MW-class (700MW X 4 units) thermal power plant, which is about 160 kilometers north of Saudi Arabia’s Jeaddah.

Doosan Heavy Industries was involved in the whole process from design and equipment production to installation and trial run of the thermoelectric power plant, and it achieved 50 million safe man-hours, the longest accident-free period of all power plant construction projects around the world, in February.
