Samsung Display and LG Display announced on May 23 that they will unveil the cutting edge display products at the 2016 Society for Information Display (SID) conference to be opened in San Francisco on the 24th. The SID is the world’s largest conference and exhibition dedicated to display technologies.
Samsung Display show off its numerous technologies, such as rollable organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products, virtual reality (VR), vehicle AMOLED displays and hologram technology, which have never been shown publicly. In particular, the company will exhibit a prototype of the 5.7-inch flexible AMOLED display with the industry’s best QHD resolutions (2560x1440) and the thickness of 0.3 millimeters. The 5.7-inch rollable AMOLED display is also only 0.3 millimeters thick and weighs only 5 grams. It also has the best specifications for rollable products unveiled up to now with full HD resolutions (1920x1080) and radius curvature of 10R.
Moreover, Samsung will show off its digital hologram display technology which can realizes 3D images in 3D spaces. The technology can make 3D images in a space by using the coherence of lights. An official from Samsung Display said, “The technology can be used in various areas which require 3D image technology, such as 3D popup books, 3D games, VR and AR, in the future.”
LG Display plans to emphasize its high quality and design degree of freedom of its POLD products. The company will display the 77-inch UHD OLED TV panel, which is recognized as the best quality in existence in terms of light and shade, color accuracy and viewing angle, and next-generation products, including the 55-inch double-faced signage and the 65-inch concave OLED display.
It will also exhibit various auto products which are designed for the rapidly growing automobile market, such as the 12.3-inch plastic curved OLED display, the 12.3-inch center information display realizing high resolutions and brightness of over 100 nits and cluster.
