It is rumored that Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi and Huawei will launch curved display smartphones using the display panels of Korea’s LG and Samsung.

According to Chinese information technology website “MyDrivers” on May 1 (local time), Xiaomi and Huawei will release the curved smartphones in September.

It is calimed that Xiaomi is working on its first curved edge display smartphone, believed to be dubbed the Mi Edge or Mi Note Edge, and Huawei is also preparing for the new model called “Mate Edge.” As Samsung’s edge display has attracted attention in the smartphone market this year, China’s Vivo has recently launched the Xplay 5 models with dual-edge curved screen.

However, Xiaomi and Huawei will have slightly different curved smartphones. Xiaomi will launch a device featuring LG’s flexible screen, while Huawei will use Samsung’s dual edge display in its smartphone.

Until now, LG has unveiled the curved, flexible smartphones in G Flex series but Samsung has used dual edge displays.

It is still unknown what Xiaomi’s edge smartphone will look like as there are rumors that LG will use a new shape of curved screens due to not so high sales of its G Flex series.

It is expected that Xiaomi’s edge phone featuring Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM and a 16 MP rear camera will be priced at 3,000 Yuan (US$463 or  526,680 won) and Huawei’s edge phone sporting its in-house-developed Kirin 950 chipset and 4GB of RAM will cost at 4,000 Yuan (US$617 or 702,240 won).
