Hanmi Pharmaceutical Co. is to build an additional Bio Plant in order to prepare the commercialization of new biological medicines, for which the company signed a license deal with global pharmaceutical firms, including Sanofi, last year.

Hanmi Pharmaceutical announced on Apr. 14 that it will establish the second Bio Plant, a six-story construction with a basement level occupying 52,126 square meters of land in its bio medicine production base, Pyeongtaek complex in Gyeonggi Province. The new Bio Plant will be completed in June 2017 and built by Samsung Engineering.

The company’s movement is to manufacture products to be supplied for global clinical trials and approval of Quantum Project, for which the large-scale license contracts were signed last year. It is expected to play an important role in commercialization in the future.

Choi Sung-chul, director at Hanmi Pharmaceutical and manager at the company’s Pyeongtaek complex, said, “The second Bio Plant will serve as important momentum to accelerate the commercialization of new biological medicines. I will make every effort to successfully complete the plant construction with the belief that it will write a new history in Korean pharmaceutical industry.”
