GS Engineering and Construction (E&C) announced on March 22 that the company won a US$1.26 billion order to build a building-type rolling stock base (the T301 project) from the Land Transport Authority of Singapore.

The T301 project is the largest-ever project from the LTA, which is in charge of subway infrastructure construction in Singapore. In particular, the project’s rolling stock and bus base is the world’s largest. The base is the world’s first building-type model. These features made the project one of the hottest projects in the world construction industry.

This project aims to build a rolling stock and vehicle base for three subway lines near Changi International Airport in the southeast of Singapore. The 320,000-square-meter base will consist of a two-story subway rolling stock base with a basement floor and a four-story base for buses.

The three floors from the first basement floor to the second floor of the rolling stock base will hold a total of 985 rolling stocks. The four-story bus base, an unprecedented building, will be capable of accommodating 815 units. The project includes the construction of a 1.45-km-long linking tunnel. The project will take a total of 95 months and is slated for completion in February 2024.

As a result, GS Engineering and Construction will exclusively a rolling stock and bus base project amounting to over two trillion won in total including the T3008 project, a preliminary and preparatory project for the site for the T301 project that they won in June of last year. Notably, the winning of the project enabled the global contractor to record seven subway projects in Singapore and about 3.2 trillion won in total in contract money, proving its remarkable competitiveness.

During the competition to win the project, GS E&C beat other world-class builders by suggesting the best engineering method based on the Building Information Management (BIM) System, a 3D design modeling method.
