More Sales but Low Share

 

Hyundai Motor Co. and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors Corp. logged double-digit sales growth in Europe last month, but their combined market share inched down.

According to the data by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) on Dec. 16, Hyundai Motor sold 35,897 vehicles in November, up 12 percent from a year earlier, while Kia Motors logged 9.2 percent growth to 30,620 units.

The two South Korean car makers sold a combined 66,517 units there, up 10.7 percent from a year ago.

However, their combined market share dropped 0.2 percentage points to 5.9 percent last month, as total vehicle sales in the European market reached 1.12 million units, up 13.7 percent from the same month last year.

The Volkswagen Group, which was marred by the emissions cheating scandal, sold 275,924 units in Europe in Nov., showing a 4.2 percent increase from a year earlier. Its share in the European market dropped 2.3 percentage points to 24.5 percent.
