The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has signed a six-party business agreement with Seoul City, the Lotte Group, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines and Hana Tour on Dec. 15 to host the 2017 WTTC Global Summit in Korea.

Officially established in 1990 in the U.K., the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is an organization consisting of CEOs from the top 100 global leaders in the travel and tourism industry. The WTTC hosts a “global summit” and “region summit” by continent at cities that have a strong influence on the global economy and tourism every year. As the summit invites only each government’s minister and vice minister, global tourism company chairmen, and influential media officials, it is considered the authoritative forum in the travel and tourism industry.

The major members of the WTTC include chairmen from global hotel groups such as Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Hilton Hotels Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group, and Marriott International; chairmen from major airlines including United Airlines and British Airways; and chairmen from various other global companies, such as Google, Agoda, Expedia, IBM and Coca-Cola Company. The Lotte Group is the only WTTC member in Korea.

At the previous global summit, prominent figures including former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former prime minister of the U.K. Tony Blair took part in the forum as guest speakers.
