Game and Technology, a Korean non-practicing entity (NPE), recently filed patent infringement and damage suits in a court in Texas against global leading game companies such as Blizzard, Valve, Riot Games and Wargaming.

Such litigation against American companies has almost no precedent, although a series of similar suits have taken place with regard to Chinese game studios. Korean firms are still on the defense when it comes to patent disputes against global players. In 2013, for example, Lodsys filed two patent infringement lawsuits against 10 mobile game developers, including Gamevil.

The recent lawsuits between Game and Technology and the defendants are related to a method for managing online game characters, details about game items such as their durations, and resolution differences between chatting and game windows. NHN Entertainment had been in possession of these patents until early last year when Game and Technology purchased the rights.
