Dr. Steven K. Lee was inaugurated as the president of George Mason University Korea (GMUK) at a ceremony held at the Incheon Global Campus concert hall on Thursday, Nov. 19. The ceremony was attended by more than 200 dignitaries, business and community leaders from around the world.

During his inaugural address, President Lee said, “I will do my best to continue to develop George Mason University Korea as a responsible global higher education institution, contributing to Incheon and the local community and the world, and actively participate in solving global issues.”

Stressing the fact that universities naturally react to social trends as opposed to leading them, he further stated, “George Mason University Korea will support students by providing them with a variety of learning experiences both inside and outside of the school once they enter GMUK. We will encourage students to participate in the community and support students in developing a global mindset.”

George Mason University Korea is the Korean campus of George Mason University, the largest public university in Virginia, the U.S. In the past, President Lee has served as the founding director and chief executive officer of the University of Southern California Korea (USC Korea), founding director of University of California, San Diego and at Portland State University.
