The third transportation test of the Rajin-Khasan Project, which is a joint freight logistics project of South Korea, North Korea and Russia, started on Nov. 17. The two-week test is to examine the feasibility of the project.

The 20 South Korean testers, including government officials and those from POSCO, KORAIL and Hyundai Merchant Marine, arrived in North Korea to this end. They are scheduled to stay there until Nov. 20, observing the loading of 120,000 tons of bituminous coal produced in Russia and 10 containers of mineral water produced in China.

The bituminous coal is slated to be transported to Gwangyang Port and Pohang Port located in South Korea, while the mineral water is to arrive at the nearby Busan Port. Two 45,000-ton Chinese bulk carriers and a 10,000-ton container ship are to be employed for the purpose.

The Rajin-Khasan Project is to transport Russian bituminous coal by train from Khasan, Russia to Rajin Port in the North, which are at a distance of 54 km from each other, and then move it to the South by sea.
