Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on Oct. 12 that four employees at the company’s research and development (R&D) division – Chief Researcher Jee Sung-hyun, Chief Researcher Kim Young-o, Senior Researcher Seo Tae-seok, and Researcher Moon Byoung-wook – will be listed in the Marquis Who's Who in the World 2016. Among them, Senior Researcher Seo Tae-seok and Researcher Moon Byoung-wook will also be registered in the International Biographical Centre (IBK) of the U.K., two out of the world’s top three biographical dictionaries at the same time.

Marquis Who's Who and IBK are world biographical dictionaries which are published annually in the U.S. and the U.K.

They are among the world’s top three biographical dictionaries, along with the American Biographical Institute (ABI). Marquis Who's Who selects 50,000 people who have made great achievements in areas such as politics, economics, social science, and science, and registers their achievements and profiles every year. Hyundai E&C is the first company in Korea to register four of its researchers on the list all at once.

Senior Researcher Seo Tae-seok is an expert in the concrete sector, and Researcher Moon Byoung-wook is an expert in improving the structural stability of buildings from wind and earthquakes.

Kim Dae-young, chief researcher at Hyundai E&C’s R&D division, is the first employee at the company who was listed in the Marquis Who's Who in 2007, recognized for his achievements in developing a 3D laser scanner system to measure the roughness of a joint surface, which is a basic technology of rock tunnel construction.

Hyundai E&C employs 5,200 technical experts, the largest number among the nation’s construction firms, showing the best technology in the industry. Also, the company invested 123 billion won (US$107.52 million) in R&D last year, and is accelerating securing the future technology by continuously expanding the R&D investments in order to develop basic technologies in the future.

The fact that Hyundai E&C registered its four employees in the Marquis Who's Who at the same time is the result of the company’s investment in technical support and R&D. Also, it shows that its employees get abreast of other researchers in global leading firms in the international stage, and that the company is a global leading builders.

An official from Hyundai E&C said, “Setting up the 2015 management policy as ‘Becoming the leader in the global construction industry,’ Hyundai E&C is making efforts to expand its business foundation for future growth by strengthening core technology. We will invest in R&D to focus on technology development, and bolster the company’s global competence in the future.”
