GS Engineering & Construction announced that JurongHealth held the official opening ceremony in Singapore on Oct. 10 with officials from the project, including Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; Lim Byung-yong, CEO of the builder GS Engineering & Construction; and key officials from the government and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in attendance.

In May, 2012, GS E&C became the sole company to sign a 600 billion won (US$524.48 million) contract with the Singapore Ministry of Health to build Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. The order was the company’s largest construction project abroad at the time.

Based on the international standards of hospital construction, the project is considered the hospital representing Singapore with the latest hospital design and medical treatment trend and the unique design of the building exterior.

Ng Teng Fong General Hospital has a unique exterior design that draws the eye and seems to change from moment to moment when moving around the structure. The United States-based HOK completed the basic design, while Melbourne-based Studio505 completed the façade design. With the streamlined and fan-shaped plane design, the hospital provides wards and space planning completely different from conventional hospitals.

The hospital also received the Green Mark Platinum Award, which is the highest grade of the green building certification, by the Building Construction Authority of Singapore in 2013, from design to construction.

“All of GS E&C’s technology and know-how are used to build the hospital representing Singapore. We will build further trust with the Singapore government as a business partner in the future,” said GS E&C Executive Director Park Kwang-ho.
