At the Foreign Correspondents' Club of the Korea Press Center, Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Young-sun) held “Autumn Forum, Guri World Design City (GWDC) Event” at 3 p.m. from Sept. 2. The event was attended by 120 people, including construction investors (CI), strategic investors (SI), and government officials.

At the forum, 12 investment groups and officials that signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Guri City to cooperate in the GWDC project gathered to elect a chairman, a vice chairman, and an assistant administrator, and officially launched the consortium of domestic investment groups.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction (E&C) was elected chairman, while GS Engineering & Construction (E&C) and Hoban Construction were elected as co-vice chairmen by a unanimous vote. Also, Seohee Construction was chosen as assistant administrator.

Hyundai E&C Director Jan Gun-sik, who represented the company as chairman of the domestic investment group consortium of the GWDC, said in a short address, “The GWDC creation project calls for a combined effort, and there is a lot of work that we all have to do. We can only succeed by working in unison, and we will make every effort to create the GWDC.”

Currently, an investment agreement that carries legal binding forces to attract foreign capital worth US$3.5 billion (4.07 trillion won) is highly likely to be signed. So, the official launch of the consortium consisting of 12 domestic investment firms will provide an impetus to the GWDC project in the future.

With the theme of “Guri World Design City Future Vision and Strategy” for mutual development in the domestic design industry, the “2015 Guri World Design City (GWDC) Forum” took place at Guri Art Hall at 4 p.m. on Sept. 10, participated in by 70 people from domestic design organizations, societies, and relevant authorities. The forum was co-hosted by Guri City, the Korean Federation of Design Associations and Space Design Alliance Korea, and was sponsored by Cultural Content Design Institute.

During a welcoming speech at the forum, Park Young-sun, mayor of Guri City, and Shin Dong-hwa, president of Guri City Assembly, said that the way to activate the domestic design industry, which is currently stagnant, is to successfully carry out the GWDC project, and the project will play a big part in promoting the domestic design industry and creating professional jobs in the design sector. They added that they are asking for much attention and cooperation in order to successfully operate the project through mutual development with domestic design organizations in the future.
