According to US-based IT news site Phone Arena on Sept. 23 (local time), LG Electronics' next premium phone will be the G5, which will be scheduled to be introduced in the first half of 2016. This contradicts other rumors that another model, tentatively named the V10 and which may be showcased in Oct. 1, is the next premium handset. The news site reported that rumors have been widely circulated about the G5 on Chinese social media Weibo.

LG's next premium model is going to roll out in the first half of next year, and it is expected to feature the Snapdragon 820 and a 20 megapixel camera sensor produced by Sony.

Previously, the Korean tech giant adopted the Snapdragon 808, which is inferior to the Snapdragon 810, since the latter was embroiled in an overheating controversy. Due to the controversy, Samsung Electronics discontinued using application processors (AP) made by Qualcomm, starting from the Galaxy S6, adopting its own Exynos chips instead. LG, on the other hand, chose Qualcomm once again, since the Android phone maker was not ready for the mass production of its own AP. The Snapdragon 808 is highly likely to be used in the V10.

With Qualcomm devoting itself to developing the Snapdragon 820 as its next flagship processor, LG is likely to use the new chipset in the G5, which will be released next year. In fact, Samsung is also said to be testing the Snapdragon 820 in order to use it in the Galaxy S7.

If Sony's 20 megapixel camera sensor is used in the G5, the function of the camera in the G5 will be better than a 16 megapixel sensor used in the G4. Since the G4 with a Sony IMX234 sensor offers high resolution images, there is much anticipation for the G5. The new model is likely to be launched next spring.
