Going Overseas

On Sept. 22, the Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning and the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy held a meeting with more than 30 plant builders and information security service providers in Korea to discuss overseas business based on collaboration.

These days, Korean oil refining companies, power generators, and petrochemical plant builders are continuing to increase their shares in the global market. However, they are in the face of more and more frequent cyber attacks nowadays, and the importance of information security is skyrocketing with regard to systems for controlling their facilities.

Under the circumstances, demands for information and communication technology-based advanced information security techniques for the protection of industrial control systems are on the rise around the world with respect to the establishment of infrastructure such as industrial plants.

“With the threat of cyber terrorism against industrial control systems mounting worldwide, Korean companies are striving to combine their excellent information protection techniques with the infrastructure in the plant, shipbuilding, and construction industries,” said Hong Jin-bae, director at the Cyber Security Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning, adding, “We are expecting that such efforts will help boost the competitiveness of the Korean plant industry, while facilitating the overseas business of Korean information security firms at the same time.”
