Public-Private Partnership

Global leading firms in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector, such as the Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), Nokia, and SAP, have joined the Korean government-led IoT Global Public-Private Partnership Council.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) of Korea announced that it deliberated and confirmed such an agenda at the third IoT Global Public-Private Partnership Conference held at EL Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, on Sept. 22.

Previously, the MSIP launched the IoT Global Public-Private Partnership Conference Group in May last year in a bid to promote the IoT industry through mutual cooperation between domestic IoT companies and global companies.

Currently, the group is participated in by domestic firms, including Samsung Electronics, Naver, Hanwha S&C, SK Telecom, KT, LG U+, and Handy Soft, and some international firms such as Cisco Korea, Oracle, Intel, IBM, and Qualcomm, as well as the MSIP, the Korea Internet & Security Agency, and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute of Korea.

Its steering committee approved the addition of HP, an electronic communication firm that encompasses servers, software, and solutions; Nokia, a network solutions provider; SAP, the leading firm in the corporate application software market; and Nordic Semiconductor, a semiconductor company specializing in ultra low power (ULP) short-range wireless communication.

Meanwhile, the second IoT Showcase, which was hosted by Intel and sponsored by the MSIP, took place after the conference. In the event, a total of four promising small and mid-size companies in the IoT industry introduced their products and solutions. Currently, Daliworks and Perples, which were found at the first IoT Showcase held in May, are joining hands with Cisco to develop a cooperation model using Cisco’s IoT solutions. Moreover, KT, which has become a new chair of the committee, will hold the IoT Showcase within this year.
