International Standardized Recognition

The Korea Standards Association (KSA) announced on Sept. 17 that Korea was elected as a member of the Technical Management Board (TMB) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

In the election that continued for four weeks from July 16, Korea competed with the countries like Russia and India for one of the two seats that expire this year. According to the result of the election, director Jeon Jin-soo at the KSA is scheduled to act as a technical director at the TMB of the ISO from 2016 to 2018. The TMB, which has 15 members, has very important roles in the ISO, such as decision making on the establishment and discontinuation of technical committees and subcommittees, and the appointment of secretaries.

The 15 member countries are divided into six permanent members, including the United States, Britain, and Germany, and nine elected countries. Korea served two consecutive terms from 2008 as a TMB member, and its election at this time is expected to further enhance the international standing of Korea as a global powerhouse in the field of standardization.

Jeon Joon-soo, in the meantime, has served as the head of the Standards Promotion Division, the International Standards Team, and the Private Standards Team in the KSA.
