A total of approximately 14,000 vehicles across 8 different brands and 21 models, including Kia and Mercedes-Benz, have been identified for a recall.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has revealed that a total of 14,057 vehicles from 21 different models, produced or imported and sold by 8 companies including Kia, Mercedes-Benz Korea, GM Korea, Tesla Korea, and Toyota Korea, have been found to have defects. As a result, these companies have voluntarily initiated corrective measures (recalls).

Kia’s flagship electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), the EV9, is set to undergo corrective actions on Aug. 9. This decision comes as a response to the discovery of a software design error in the rear-wheel drive electric motor control unit, affecting a total of 8,394 units.

On the subsequent day, which is Aug. 10, recall procedures will be initiated by GM Korea and Toyota. GM Korea will be recalling 271 units of Traverse and 21 units of Cadillac XT5, both imported and sold, due to a detected manufacturing defect in the transmission’s internal component (sun gear). Simultaneously, Toyota will recall 108 units of the Lexus NX450h+ model, as a circuit design error has been identified in the voltage conversion device.

Starting from Aug. 11, Mercedes-Benz Korea will initiate their recall procedures. The E300 e 4MATIC (2695 units) has been found to have wiring damage in the electric motor control unit. Four models including the EQS 450+ (559 units) have been identified with non-compliance to safety standards for high-voltage electric devices. Additionally, two models, the C300 4MATIC and others (82 units), have been identified with issues related to the tightening of the 12V and 48V ground connection bolts.

Similarly, Jaguar Land Rover Korea will be conducting a recall on the same day for four vehicle models, which include the New Range Rover P530 LWB (1316 units). This recall has been prompted by wiring damage in the rear lamps, encompassing the taillights and brake lights.

Previously, owners of the Volkswagen ID.4, consisting of 338 units, have seen economic compensation since Aug. 4 due to excessive fuel consumption display. In the case of Tesla, two vehicle models, including the Model S (176 units), were found to have defective front cameras. Additionally, for two other models, including the Model X (97 units), issues with the manufacturing of front seat belts were identified, leading to corrective measures being implemented starting from Aug. 7.
