A new service has been launched to help passengers board domestic flights using only a PASS application on their smartphones, eliminating the need for physical identification and paper boarding passes.

On Aug. 7, SK Telecom, KT, LG Uplus, and the Korea Airports Corporation jointly announced the launch of the “PASS Smart Air Ticket” service. Starting from today, passengers can use a PASS app installed on their smartphones to authenticate both their identification and boarding passes simultaneously at 14 domestic airports, including at Gimpo, Gimhae, and Jeju.

The PASS Smart Air Ticket service operates through the PASS app’s mobile identification features, such as mobile resident registration card verification and mobile driver’s license verification. When users choose to utilize the smart ticket service, a QR code and flight information are automatically generated within the app. Passengers who have pre-registered their mobile identification within the PASS app can use this service after completing the flight check-in process. This service can replace traditional boarding passes throughout the entire process, including check-in, identity verification, duty-free shopping, and boarding the aircraft.

The PASS Smart Air Ticket service is currently available for domestic flights with four airlines: Jeju Air, T’way Air, Hi Air, and Eastar Jet. Air Seoul will also join this service later this month. There are plans to expand this service to all domestic airlines in the future.
