According to an official from the creative economy innovation center in Sejong City on Sept. 9, 22 high-ranking government officials from Vietnam visited the city and tested a smart farm that grows tomatoes in Yeondong-myeon, Sejong City, the day before.

The visiting group included 10 vice minister level officials, including the vice chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection of Vietnam and the chief of the Ministry of Public Security, and other elite officials in the major government departments in Vietnam. All of them are key figures in the Vietnamese government that answer for the present and the future of the country.

At the creative economy innovation center in Sejong City, they were first briefed on Korea’s demonstration project of the new farming method, which integrates agriculture with ICT and Big Data. The visitors asked what farmers can get from smart farming, showing high interest in the new method.

Then, they visited a smart farm model village in Yeondong-myeon, Sejong City, and saw a site in which state-of-the-art ICT is combined with traditional agriculture.

Major General Vu Hai San, deputy commander and chief of staff of Military Region 3 and the leader of the visiting group, said, “I am surprised that farmers can monitor and control the temperature of greenhouses via smart devices.”

Le Duc Thai, a central member of the Communist Party of Vietnam in Quang Ninh Province, said, “I am impressed with the fact that smart farming can raise productivity while saving labor and cost. It would be great if Vietnam could adopt the smart farm system as well.”

On Sept. 10, 20 government officials and businessmen from Thailand, who are currently visiting Korea on an invitation of the Korea-ASEAN Center, will visit the creative economy innovation center in Sejong City. The group includes high-ranking government officials, including the director of the Thailand Board of Investment, and businessmen of leading venture firms in Thailand. Since Thailand is a country in which the agricultural sector makes up a large part of its GDP, they are very interested in the most advanced smart farming system at the center in Sejong.

In addition, more and more countries are asking if they can visit, as the Sejong Center is emerging as a hub of the latest ICT agriculture.
