Samsung Ventures has made a small-scale investment in Canada-based Bubl Technology, which is working on develop 360º cameras. The venture capital arm of Samsung Electronics led the efforts to raise US$4.6 million (5.5 billion won), which was aimed at replacing management.

According to Bubl Technology on Sept. 8, Samsung Ventures and J-Tech Capital participated in the fund to raise the initial capital to change management in Bubl Technology.

The start-up showcased consumer-oriented spherical cameras for the first time, and it is now working to develop high-resolution 360º cameras.

Unlike existing 360º cameras on smartphones, Bubl Technology is working to develop cameras that can completely capture their surroundings. Videos and images shot by 360º cameras are expected to be widely used in virtual reality (VR) devices, which are led by Samsung and Sony.

Samsung, on the other hand, is trying its best to secure content for VR devices, which are drawing a lot of attention as next-gen mobile devices. The Korean tech giant unveiled a VR content platform called Milk VR, concentrating on expanding the platform by creating channels in which developers can freely upload and share VR content.
