Hanwha Aerospace has begun technology development for the localization of fighter engine materials.

Hanwha Aerospace held an agreement-signing ceremony with the Korea Aerospace Technology Research Association, the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology, and Seoul National University to develop castings for ultra-high temperature Inconel alloy 718 for turbofan aircraft engines in Seoul on July 25.

Hanwha Aerospace plans to localize Inconel alloy 718 manufacturing technology and establish a database by 2026. Inconel alloy 718 is a specialty alloy most commonly used in aviation engines because it has high heat resistance and can withstand flames of more than 1,500 degrees Celsius.

Hanwha Aerospace has been developing engine materials for unmanned aerial vehicles since January. Through this research project, it has begun to localize materials for manned fighter jets that have to withstand higher temperatures.
