First in Korea

Amorepacific announced on July 19 that it has become the first Korean company to join the International Collaboration on Cosmetics Safety (ICCS).

The ICCS, which was launched in February this year, is a global initiative comprising cosmetics manufacturers, industry associations, and animal protection groups. The primary objectives of the organization are to accelerate the transition to animal-free safety assessments of cosmetics and personal care products and their ingredients worldwide by using the latest science to convince regulatory authorities in various countries to acknowledge the results of non-animal safety assessments and incorporate them into regulations and policies, and to eliminate unnecessary animal testing while ensuring product safety and protecting human health and the environment.

Currently, the ICCS includes 40 organizations, including major global beauty companies such as L'Oreal, Unilever, Estée Lauder, and P&G, as well as national cosmetics associations, Humane Society, Cruelty Free International, PETA, and other animal protection groups. In Korea, Amorepacific is the first to join.

Erin Hill, the CEO of ICCS, welcomed Amorepacific’s participation in the ICCS, stating, “Through this, we can expand our expertise and experience worldwide. ICCS plays a very unique role in the field of non-animal safety assessments for cosmetics and their ingredients.”

Seo Byung-hwi, the CTO of Amorepacific R&I Center, said, “As a company that respects diverse life, Amorepacific has a sense of duty to not perform animal testing for the sake of animal welfare and life ethics, and we have been practicing this. It is very meaningful for Amorepacific to contribute to the significant steps of the ICCS, where scientists and experts from prestigious companies and organizations worldwide gather to continue important discussions on research and regulations for cosmetic safety evaluations without animal testing.”
