Total Recycling

Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (KKPC) is aiming to make zero waste products.

The KKPC announced on Aug. 27 that it will carry out a national research project to establish construction material production networks by using tire derived fuel (TDF) fly ash.

The project is mainly to reprocess fly ash from the KKPC’s combined heat and power plant in Yeosu to produce construction materials. It will be part of national projects to build eco-industrial parks in the southwestern region of Korea, participated in by the KKPC, related small and mid-size companies, and Korean Recycled Construction Resources Institute. Also, the project will continue until June next year.

An official from the KKPC said, “Until now, most TDF fly ash has been buried. However, a new production network will be established to collect TDF fly ash, and reprocess and sell them in the future. The cost of disposing of the waste from energy consumption can be reduced by up to 50 percent.”
