LS Cable & System announced on July 5 that it has commercialized the world’s thinnest 10 Gigabit (CAT.6A) LAN cable with an outer diameter of 6 mm.

The outer diameter has been reduced by about 20 percent compared to other general-purpose products (7.2 mm). This enables workers to increase the number of LAN cables in a building’s walls or ceilings. Data transfer volume will also increase.

LS Cable & System plans to focus its marketing efforts on internet data centers (IDCs), banks, securities firms, semiconductor factories, smart buildings, and other places where large amounts of data are used.

In particular, the Korean cable giant will expand its presence in the U.S. market, which accounts for more than 40 percent of the global LAN cable market. The U.S. market is growing rapidly as big tech companies invest in cloud, metaverse, and big data technologies.

“We are faced with fierce competition for developing thinner cables among leading companies as they want to increase data transmission volume,” said Lee Dong-wook, head of LS Cable & System’s telecommunications business division. “With the launch of high-value-added new products, LS Cable & System will further expand its sales in the U.S. market where it has already been enjoying strong results.”
