In November last year, Won Hee-ryong, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of Korea, visited Bali, Indonesia, meeting the local Minister of Transport, the Minister of the New Capital City, and the Acting Governor of Jakarta. During this visit, he signed a memorandum of understanding for the fourth stage development cooperation of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system.

On June 22, the Ministry announced the selection of eight projects for this year’s K-City Network initiative, an effort to support the creation of smart cities overseas and expand international cooperation. The projects are based in Ukraine, Indonesia, Egypt, and elsewhere.

This year’s K-City Network initiative, which started its international competition in April, categorized projects into two types: planning and overseas pilot projects. Thirty projects from 18 countries were submitted.

Four planning projects have been chosen in Uman in Ukraine, the New Capital City of Indonesia, Badr in Egypt, and Agdam in Azerbaijan. They aim to provide support in establishing fundamental plans related to smart city development in these locations.

In Uman, Ukraine, a smart city master plan for post-war reconstruction, including transportation, infrastructure, and housing, will be established to ensure systematic project advancement during the recovery process.

For the New Capital City in Indonesia, a pre-feasibility study will be conducted to support the establishment of a smart city control center, verifying the project's feasibility and laying the foundation for South Korean companies to enter the smart city project in the New Capital City.
