LG U+ is going to establish a test bed to lead 5G network technology by teaming up with Finnish tech giant Nokia.

Korea's third-largest telecoms company unveiled on July 26 that it has opened the “LG Uplus-Nokia Next-gen Technology Development Center” in Seoul in the attendance of Kim Sun-tae, head of LG U+ service and development division, and Andrew Cope, chief of Nokia Korea.

The two companies are planning to jointly develop a variety of next-generation network technologies such as large-scale data transmission networks, low-latency technology in wireless communications, and cloud-based virtual base stations and the Internet of Things (IoT).

They also agreed to push ahead with joint research and tests of the 5G and IoT technologies along with solving the tasks and requirements such as equipment and devices. They will jointly develop and test 5G base stations along with trials to connect terminals to the network. Their joint projects also include the developments of advanced carrier aggregation and small-cell technologies, considered the key to the commercialization of 5G.

They are also going to share the results of their respective R&D efforts for the 5G network and the Internet of Things.
