Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has signed a final contract with the Malaysian Ministry of Defense for the export of 18 FA-50 light attack aircraft on May 23 in Malaysia.

The Ministry of Defense and KAI announced that Defense Minister Lee Jong-seob and Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamad Hasan attended the final contract signing ceremony held locally. The contract is worth a total of $920 million (approximately 1.2069 trillion KRW).

KAI had previously signed a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) with the Malaysian Ministry of Defense for the export of the FA-50 in February and had been discussing details regarding aircraft delivery and follow-up support.

The Malaysian Air Force plans to introduce an additional 18 light fighter jets from 2026. Observations have been made in the government and defense industry that KAI's FA-50 has secured a favorable position for the second phase of the project based on this export contract. The Malaysian Navy is also conducting a project to introduce an additional three 2,000-ton Littoral Mission Vessels.
