Future Incheon Development
Incheon City's Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced on May 17 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of Cheongna G-Tech City at the G Tower in Songdo International City.
The signing ceremony was attended by Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority Director Kim Jin-yong, Vice President of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation Park Chul-heung, Chief Operating Officer of the DigiPen Institute of Technology Jason Chu, and Representative of Daewon Plus Development Choi Sam-sub.
The crux of the MOU involves investing more than 1.62 trillion won (US$1.2 billion) to establish an e-sports industry-centered game specialized complex on approximately 263,950 square meters of Cheongna's investment site. The complex will include educational facilities for global game talent cultivation, research and development (R&D) facilities, a domestic and foreign game company innovation district, studios, a knowledge industry center, MICE tourism facilities, and a game entertainment district.
Known as the “Harvard of the gaming world,” the DigiPen Institute of Technology is a global university operating branches in countries such as Singapore and Spain and is considered one of the world's leading universities in e-sports education. Its Redmond campus in Seattle, Washington, U.S., known as DigiPen Redmond, has played a crucial role in creating an e-sports industrial complex in the region and is expected to play a pivotal role in the establishment of G-Tech City.
