The Incheon Metropolitan Government will conduct a full inspection of all GS Engineering & Construction(GS E&C) worksites in Incheon. This is a follow-up to the collapse of the roof slab of an underground parking lot at an apartment construction site in Geomdan New City in Incheon on April 29.

Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok visited the accident site in the AA13-1 and -2 Blocks of the Geomdan District in Incheon, at around 12 p.m. on May 2 and ordered an in-depth investigation into all GS E&C projects in Incheon.

“In order to resolve the anxiety of citizens who are about to move into the apartment, the city has decided to conduct a full safety inspection of GS E&C’s apartment sites under construction in Incheon,” an Incheon city official said. “We will not put all sites on hold but we will investigate construction sites and supervisory companies.”

According to GS E&C, there are currently five GS E&C sites in Incheon, including the accident site. The five are four housing sites and one civil engineering site. GS E&C is the builder of the Geomdan New City apartment building where the accident occurred, and LH is the developer. GS E&C’s own investigation found that soil poured into the upper part of the underground parking lot on the morning of the day when the accident occurred.
