CJ CheilJedang announced on May 2 that it will launch a project to discover and nurture promising young Korean chefs to further accelerate the spread of Korean foods around the world.

The project is led by Lee Seon-ho, the eldest son of CJ Group Chairman Lee Jae-hyun.

First, CJ CheilJedang will support the national and group teams competing in the 2023 Korea International Culinary & Confectionery Competition, which will be held in May with activity costs, uniforms, and food ingredients.

In the first half of 2023, CJ CheilJedang will select young chefs who want to start their own businesses through a public contest and give them opportunities to operate pop-up restaurants and provide them with a space to develop and sell Korean menus at INNO Play, CJ CheilJedang’s innovation hub, for three months.

In addition to the cooking space, the selected chefs will receive educational counseling, support for their social media marketing, and opportunities to study abroad at famous culinary schools. They will also be able to participate in ingredient research classes to learn from Korean food masters and celebrity chefs and gain hands-on experience in fine dining for two months at Korean restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide.

In line with CJ Group Chairman Lee Jae-hyun’s philosophy of globalizing Korean food culture, the project aims to raise the profile of Korean chefs and help them become leaders in the spread of Korean food culture around the world.
