POSCO International Vice Chairman Jeong Tak, who doubles as a member of the Busan Expo Executive Committee, had a business meeting with Marius Skuodis, minister of transportation and communications of Lithuania, and Julius Skačkauskas, vice minister of transport and communications of Lithuania, at the Grand Central in Seoul on April 17. Jeong asked for their support in Busan’s bid to host the World Expo in 2030.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman Jeong discussed with the Lithuanian side how to utilize Klaipeda Port for the stable export of Ukrainian grain and post-war reconstruction projects. Klaipeda Port is the only ice-free port in Lithuania and has served as a transportation bridgehead between China and Western Europe.

At the same time, they have decided to strengthen mutual cooperation after hearing plans for offshore wind power projects being pursued by Lithuania. As a country adjacent to the Baltic Sea, Lithuania is considered one of the countries with abundant offshore wind power resources. Recently, eight Baltic countries, including Lithuania, have agreed to increase their offshore wind energy generation by seven times by 2030.

POSCO International has been steadily expanding its offshore wind power business with zero carbon emissions in line with POSCO Group’s RE100 and carbon neutral 2050 declarations. It plans to build a large-scale offshore wind power complex with a capacity of 300 MW in Shinan, South Jeolla Province, while securing an offshore wind power capacity of up to 2.4 GW by 2030.
