Foreign Investors

The Korea Exchange announced on April 17 that this month’s average daily short selling in KOSPI is 634.6 billion won (US$480 million), the largest since records began in 2001.

This month’s average daily short selling in KOSDAQ is also at the highest level ever, 362.7 billion won (US$274.9 million). The previous high, 288.7 billion won (US$218.9 million), was recorded last month.

This rapid increase in short selling has to do with foreign investors. This month, their average daily short selling in KOSPI is more than 508 billion won (US$385 million). The figure was less than 300 billion won last month.

In the KOSPI, the ratio of short selling by foreign investors rose from 67.46 percent to 68.71 percent from January to March. The current ratio amounts to 80.13 percent. In the KOSDAQ, the current ratio is 58.98 percent, 3.27 percentage points higher than the previous month’s figure.
