Gaps to be Filled

People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Kyung-jun remarked on April 6 that the Incheon International Airport is supposed to have 1,890 security guards but was understaffed by 390 as of the end of March.

The airport has recently revealed serious security vulnerabilities. On March 26, two people from Kazakhstan ran away from the airport. On March 10, two 9 mm pistol bullets were found in a Korean Air plane at the airport. Also, drug smuggling through the airport is on the increase.

Incheon International Airport Security posted recruitment announcements for 140 new staff in February and 200 in March in order to fill the vacancies. Given that recruitment and training take three to four months, the vacancies are unlikely to be filled until late July. The airport security company is planning to deal with the shortage by work system adjustment.
